Ricardo “Rico” Garcia of North Riverside wasn’t sure what career path he wanted to pursue when enrolled at Triton College. With an interest in insurance and risk management, he decided to take a few accounting and finance classes to broaden his options.

“I realized I really enjoyed my accounting and finance classes,” he said. “I honestly didn’t know I wanted to pursue that career path until I started taking the classes at Triton.”

Garcia chose Triton for its smaller class sizes, which allowed him to build better relationships with his instructors. He felt that larger universities didn’t offer the same level of close mentorship.

“I can talk to my instructors anytime one-on-one,” he said. “It’s very helpful.”

Beyond academics, Garcia is actively involved in campus clubs and activities. He is a member of the Accounting and Business Society, Program Board, Latin American Student Organization (L.A.S.O.) and the Triton College Student Association (TCSA).

“Ricky is one of our newest team members who has quickly become involved in event production,” said Johnny Urbina, director of Student Services. “He contributes to campus events such as the Annual Movie on the Mounds and the Corn Roast. Alongside his fellow Program Board members, he has already begun planning for fall 2025.”

Garcia is excited about his future in accounting and business and serving the Triton College community through volunteering and hard work.

“I love everybody’s work ethic here,” he said. “Everyone is working toward a common goal.” TCSA offers students the opportunity to engage in governance, leadership and campus events. By joining the TCSA, students can develop essential leadership skills, participate in campus committees and, most importantly, make a positive impact at Triton. The organization consists of 25 elected student senators and five elected officers.

The Program Board is a student organization that plans a variety of campus events, including the Corn Roast, Movie on the Mounds, Welcome Week and other fun campus activities throughout the year.
